Brooke’s Graduation Portraits at NC State
Brooke’s senior portrait session at NC State was my first shoot after the beginning of the pandemic. It was great to be back shooting after having a 2-month break, even if I was doing it while wearing a mask!
Brooke picked a few shoot locations around campus that were significant to her. The first was the iconic Bell Tower. The ground level of the tower was under construction, but luckily the brick wall that she was sitting on obstructed any of the construction clutter.
We also shot in the Court of Carolina, which is a popular location for NC State grads. But, I loved that she didn’t want to shoot in front of the 1911 Building, (as most people do) but rather in the courtyard, by the trees that she used to sit under as a student. She just wanted to shoot in locations that were personally significant to her.
Speaking of significant locations, it was important to Brooke that we shoot in front of Jordan Hall, the building where she had most of her classes. For this shot, we used the Jordan Hall sign that listed her 2 majors as well as a cool architectural detail of the building that resembles a mountainside.
No NC State graduation portrait session would be complete without visiting the wolves. We also took advantage of shooting at the nearby Free Expression Tunnel. I loved that there was some artwork mentioning the 2020 graduating class.
2020 college graduates have been through a lot and I am so sad that their senior years have been disrupted by this pandemic. I hope that their individual celebrations, whatever form they may take, are filled with joy. They certainly deserve to be proud!
